We had finally got the corporate world to listen. Post Covid, we could work from home, there was no need to rack your brain to give a duvet day; we even reinforced this laxity in in-office attendance to a recognition by companies of wasted hours by the water cooler.

We then moved to freelancing with independent contracting and freelancing filling that void so aptly described by the Happy Peasants and Frustrated achiever paradox. We gained agency, acknowledged our capabilities and were attuned to what we needed for our wellbeing. The only problem was that the Gig economy was growing and you were not the only person seeking said fulfilment.

Together with those seeking rebalance as part of a contentment strategy – there were those entering into the same economy because of job losses or inability to find a job at a time of increased downsizing. We then realized how lucky we were to have employment and went back to work less frustrated. This is in the understanding that ‘if I wanted to, I could’.

We can now be happier celebrating a move towards happy peasantry [subjectively] beating the paradox of frustration in achievement. Always worth remembering and revisiting as your employer limits your work-from-home days.
